If you’ve been around for a while, you know I love decorating our homes with a touch of modern coastal style. For years I’ve changed my color scheme and design style with the seasons and trends, but once I incorporated a bright, beach house-inspired palette of crisp whites, fresh blues, and soft, neutral decor, it all started to make sense!
I know there are many different versions of coastal decor, from California casual to chic Hamptons to Nancy Meyers-inspired grandma coastal style — and many more — but today I’m looking at a version of coastal decor that will work for many suits different design aesthetics, modern beach house style.
While both modern coastal and modern beach house decor incorporate an abundance of natural elements like wood, baskets, natural rugs, woven light fixtures, and fabrics like cotton and linen, there are some differences between the two.
Where modern coastal interiors are typically a bit more tailored and sophisticated, beach house interiors are generally more neutral and organic, with a carefree (but chic) aesthetic that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Think comfortable seating, crumpled linens and cottons, casually thrown pillows and blankets, and weathered timbers.
